  • Yesterday morning, I was in the kitchen getting things together for everyone's day. Eric was ready to go. He came to kiss me good-bye. Many seconds later, as we were still kissing good-bye, Elli looked up from her breakfast.

El: "Ewwww. NOW I have to go wash my eyeballs."

  • The other day Em was doing her homework ..

Em: "Mom? How do you use this word in a sentence - P-O-L-L?
I pause to think of a sentence.
Elli fills in for me: "Pole!! My friend ran into a pole and died!!!"

    Uh. Yeah. NOT helpful.

  • I bought the kids the 'little cutie' clementine tangerines last week, which they LOVED and were quite happy that they are back in season.
Yesterday, I went to WalMart and saw that they had clementines, too, though they were bigger, bumpier and just not as cute. They were also half the price, so I thought I'd give them a try.
Today, the girls tried them. Em complained about the thickness of the skin and how much white there was and how they weren't as sweet...
Elli's comment? "These are horrible!! They are as much a nightmare as my insomnia!!"

These are very strong feelings towards tangerines, don't you think?

  • While driving home today, there was a strange lapse of communication coming from the backseat. (Silence is rare with them.)
After about 2 minutes of quiet...
Em: (random outburst) "Dinkin', you're so stinkin'!!"
This is followed by another (shorter) silence.
Then we came to a stop.
El reads a sign: "Do not enter."
El: "Emily! Stop! It SAYS 'do not enter'!!"
Em: (bossy & annoyed) "Why are you always saying random things like that??"

    wt..???

  • My daughter had the first day of a two day field trip today at their 'Outdoor School'. It was a day spent hiking, learning about how a water sanitation plant works, learning the ecosystem of our area, and doing lots of fun science experiments.
One of the experiments was dissecting owl pellets! I know most of you are thinking 'Gross.' and so were the kids at first, but as they got into it, they really didn't want that experiment to end!
The best quote of the entire day?
A girl dissecting her owl pellet: "Eww. It is SO 'ew', it's AWESOME."

    Made me laugh.

It was a perfectly gorgeous day for hiking, and a perfect night to help 90 (or so) 5th graders roast marshmallows and make s'mores!
    Fun day. :)
