I remembered something from our trip out here that I had wanted to blog!
The first gas station that we stopped in this side of the Florida border had a surprising amount of Florida paraphernalia. On the way to use the bathroom, the girls were awed by the dangling dolphin shell windchimes, the animal 'statues' made from seashells, and best of all - the alligator heads. Rows of them. I personally can't understand why anyone would say "Yeah! I always wanted an alligator head in my house! Let's get one!" But then, to take it one step further, they also offered you the 'alligator foot on a stick'!!! Now you, too, could purchase a dowel rod with an alligator foot glued to the end. Aside from being gross, this struck me as funny, because, as any teacher knows, having a pointer in your classroom to point out letters or words is part of the trade. I could just picture that SOMEWHERE in this world SOMEONE would look at that stick and think "OooOOooh... that'd be GREAT for my classroom! The kids would LOVE it!".
Somewhere. Anyway. It'd be good at threatening the children, if nothing else... "Be good, or I'll get out the alligator foot pointer..."
Amazing what's for sale out there.

i used to have a vintage purse made out of a baby alligator with head, feet, and tail still attached. one of the few cool things hubby #1 gave me (besides the two kids). but I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO IT! boo. hoo.
Eric's dad calls those "gimcracks" - can't believe you didn't buy one, haha
